Frequently asked questions

What differentiates Batten & Company from other top management consultancies?

Batten & Company considers itself a “Bridge” between strategy formulation and operative Marketing. Thanks to many lateral entrants from renowned consultancies as well as brand-name manufacturers, Batten & Company consultants have the know-how to keep up with the Top-Management as well as strategic marketing, Branding and CRM projects. As a part of the international BBDO Worldwide Network and Omnicom, one of the biggest advertising holdings worldwide, Batten & Company understands how a marketing strategy can be realised, in order to be implemented optimally. In this way, we can offer clients a thorough knowledge of marketing coupled with analytical know-how of the methods involved.

What is so particularly charming about a function at Batten & Company – especially for experienced professionals in consultancy and industry?

Our strength lies in our ability to provide solutions for a variety of strategic and operational challenges, in which we – as opposed to conventional management consultancies – dedicate ourselves exclusively to marketing-themes such as brand strategy for positioning as well as development of marketing plans. The work in interdisciplinary teams made up out of classic management consultants, market researchers and marketing- and industry specialists should be emphasised. The advantage of this blend of talent, i.e. melting pot, is obvious to both our clients and our employees: Whilst one member of the team understands and knows brand management back to front and knows how a traditional brand manufacturer or service provider operates internally, another member contributes the analytical munitions; the former brand manager in turn will ensure that the results are converted into realistic marketing and communication plans rather than paper tigers.

What keeps Batten & Company together, considering the heterogeneity of talents?

Diversity is our strength, yet one could say that all consultants at Batten & Company have one thing in common: the passion for strategic marketing in all its facets. This is exactly why, for example, a great number of professionals from FMCG companies switch to Batten & Company: here they can still focus on marketing-related topics, but also expand their horizon from traditional brand management to, for example, customer retention and satisfaction programmes.

What does the recruitment and career development process look like at Batten & Company?

We mostly recruit on the consultant, senior consultant and manager levels, since we strive to nurture our own principals and partners. To achieve this, the "Power Partnering" programme was launched in 2006 which already yielded a new partner. Our career levels range from Consultant, Senior Consultant, Manager up to Principal and Partner.

How can Batten & Company employees develop themselves?

The continuous development of every individual is paramount on our agenda. It, of course, also strongly depends on personal commitment, at which pace one will stride through ones personal career. To create the fundamentals for a successful career, we created a "Professional Development Program", which includes multiple building blocks. From the start every new employee will be accompanied by a mentor, who will serve as a person of contact and as patron who already knows the ropes in the intern network. After getting started we invite our consultants to our "New Hires Integration Camp". This is where our new employees obtain basic knowledge and skill required for consultancy.
Regularly, centrally organised trainings keep evolving the employee on a professional as well as a personal level. Many experiences will of course be obtained “on the road” at clients as well as through exchange of knowledge with colleagues. This is why we created an Intern University. Held multiple times a month, we present current consultancy projects. Furthermore, every year we organise our "Batten & Company University", which lasts several days, at an attractive location. Apart from workshops and lectures, level-specific trainings with renowned external trainers are centre of attention.
Extraordinarily high-performing employees are being supported through an individual tailor-made improvement programme.

What demands does Batten & Company make on applicants?

We are looking for personalities who bring along interesting job histories in consultancy, leading industry- and service companies or market research. What’s more, doctoral students with high experience in projects and practice are very welcome. We look for excellent analytical skill, team spirit, creativity, dedication and loyalty. And the enthusiasm for marketing-themes is of course obligatory!

How many new consultants do you envisage employing each year? Which levels are very much sought-after?

We want to continue our growth-dynamic of the last few years and plan on doubling the number of consultants and senior consultants on the long term. We are also looking for managers with a solid background at a renowned consultancy. We recruit our consultants in particular through our former interns, who delivered an outstanding performance in their three to six month internship.

How many internships does Batten & Company provide on average?

Because we want to get to know our future consultants as soon as possible, we are providing between 80 and 100 internships a year to very good students in their main studies as well as postgraduates and MBA’s. This is where those who are interested can take a peek at the daily work of a consultant at Batten & Company. Interns are bound to one project team during the three to six month period and undertake initial responsibilities for a project-module. Through our “Intern University” we offer all interns education to consulting skills. The best interns will be entered into our Bonding-Programme and coached by a senior consultant. In addition there is a prospect of starting as a consultant.
